Birth: Mar. 14, 1848
Death: Mar. 13, 1909

Thursday 25 March 1909 Hoxie Kansas Newspaper:

A very large crowd assembled at the Christian church last Tuesday (23 March) to pay the last respects to an old friend and neighbor, Z. T. Byrne, father of Mrs. E. D. Corrick. It was a very sad and sudden death. We extend our sympathies to the ones who mourn the loss of their loved one. Zachary T. Byrne died Saturday, 13 March 1909.

On March 14, 1848 in Preston Co., Virginia (now West Virginia), the last child of Samuel and Juana Hagans Byrne was born. They named him Zachary Taylor, and they called him Taylor. Taylor was just two years old when the family made their way from Virginia to Missouri. He grew up in Scotland County and was just thirteen years old when four of his older brothers went to war. Brothers Harrison H., John P., and Lucien E., went with the North, while brother Charles with the South. On June 19, 1870 he married Lucy Ann Ayers, the daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah Roseberry Ayers of Adair County, Missouri. His brother Lucien E. married Elizabeth Catherine Ayers a sister to Lucy Ann. There were seven children born to Taylor and Lucy; Ethel C., Annie B., Charles M., Sylvester V., Stella, Ella A., and Lottie. Annie Bell married Ellis Delmar Corrick (great grandparents of the writer) and lived in Corrickville, Sheridan County, Kansas. Annie and her husband are both buried in Bethel Cemetery near Corrickville. Ellis and Annie Bell owned 1100 acres, and donated land and built The Bethel Christian Church. They also helped build the Sunny Star School and operated a store, as well as operating a farm. Franklin Corrick was the fourth child of ten, and was a Lawyer and Reviser of Statutes for the state of Kansas. He compiled laws for the state of Kansas. Ethel Clare married Ernest Tedlock and both are buried in California. Little is known about the other five children. Around February 1889 at the age of forty and living in Ford County Kansas, Taylor fell upon hard times and became sick with what we today call a nervous breakdown. Taylor died March 13, 1909 at the age of 60 years, 11, months, and 27 days. Taylor is buried in the Bethel Cemetery, Sheridan County, Kansas near his daughter Annie and son-in-law Ellis Corrick. At the time of her death, Taylor's wife Lucy Ann was living with their daughter Ethel and son-in-law Ernest Tedlock in St. Joseph, Missouri. Lucy is buried at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri.
