Chicago Tribune (IL) - November 25, 2002
Deceased Name: GLEN E. DUCKWORTH, 51

Glen E. Duckworth, 51, a longtime teacher, coach and administrator in Lincoln-Way High School District 210, died of pancreatic cancer Saturday, Nov. 23, at his Mokena home.

Mr. Duckworth was born in Peoria, but his family moved frequently because of his father's job with Caterpillar Co. When he was 7, Mr. Duckworth declared that he was going to be a history teacher and coach when he grew up. "He just always admired teachers and liked sports," said his wife of 18 years, Robin. After graduating from Illinois State University, he accomplished both goals, teaching and coaching at Lincoln-Way High School for 25 years.

After earning a doctorate in education administration, Mr. Duckworth became an administrator at Lincoln-Way and last year was named director of financial services. He also sponsored school clubs, chaperoned choir tours to Europe, and coached football, baseball, hockey and golf. "He was just the kind of guy who got along with everybody," said Robert Eyrich, president of the District 210 school board. Mr. Duckworth was widely admired by his students. "I keep hearing from former students who said that he had an impact on their lives ... because he took time to make history interesting," his wife said. He also is survived by a son, Philip; his parents, Yvonne and Phil; and a brother, Jerry.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Rd., Mokena. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church, 1900 E. Lincoln Highway, New Lenox.

Sun, The: Lincoln Way (IL) - December 4, 2002
Deceased Name: School district mourns death of Glen Duckworth

Lincoln-Way High School District 210 is mourning the loss of Glen Duckworth, director of financial services, who died Nov. 23.

Duckworth, 51, of Mokena, worked for the district for more than 30 years. For 22 years he was an economics and history teacher. He then served three years as social science department chairman.

In 1995, he was promoted to associate principal for curriculum and instruction and also director of career and technical education for Lincoln-Way.

On July 1, he was promoted to director of financial services.

"Glen was an important part of our administrative team," District 210 Superintendent Lawrence A. Wyllie said. "I worked closely with him on the district's financial matters. He was heading to a point of being the business manager for the district. It was a heartfelt loss for all of us. His loss has left a big void in all our lives."

Duckworth was known for his love of sports and his energy in working with students. He was involved in many school programs over the year, including being the sponsor for different classes at the school in the late 1970s. He also did quite a bit of coaching -- including boys sophomore baseball, freshman and sophomore golf, girls golf, freshman football and varsity football -- at different times during his career.

Duckworth was active in a number of professional and community organizations and belonged to National Council and the Illinois Council of Social Studies, American Council on Consumer Interests and the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association. Duckworth was a member and past president of the Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Club.

A memorial service was held Nov. 26 at Peace Lutheran Church on Route 30, across from Lincoln-Way Central High School, in New Lenox.
