Wilma Passed away early Friday morning at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 18 days.
Wilma Mae Patrick, daughter of Lester Glen and Grace Ione Sells Hatfield, was born May 9, 1927 at Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was a 1945 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Following her education, she worked for Holt's Drug Store, Sherbume's Cafe and the telephone company. October 9, 1948 she married John Patrick, Jr. at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. The following year they purchased a farm near White City(rural Eddyville). They remained on that farm until 1960, when they pruchased a farm near Albia. Wilma was a homemaker and owned and operated the Dairy Sweet in Albia from 1960 to 1968. In 1978, John and Wilma retired from farming and moved to their present home, an acreage near Eddyville. Wilma and John had a large garden from which they sold produce at the Oskaloosa and Albia Farmers' Markets. Wilma loved to be with her family and friends and enjoyed giving their produce to them; she was also especially fond of cooking and baking for her large extended family. Wilma was a member of the Bethel Church of rural Eddyville.
Wilma's family includes her husband of over 61 years, John Patrick, Jr.; four daughters: Anna Christine(Duane)Pearson of Holstein, IA; Laura Jean(Terry)Prunty of Waterloo, IA; Katherine June(Richard)Goslar of Charter Oak, IA and Mary
Theresa Patrick and Bob Conrad of Eddyville, IA; a son, John Joseph(Cathy)Patrick of Manassas, VA; sixteen grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hatfield of Blakesburg; and a sister, Carol Hatfield of Moravia.
Besides her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by a sister, June Ankeney and a brother, Bill Hatfield. Momorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
Visitation: Will begin at noon, Sunday November 29, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be at the funeral chapel from 2-4pm to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 2pm Monday morning, November 30, 2009 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Mark Doll officiating.
Interment: Bethel Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Mahaska County.
