Martha Sue Denson Esco, 83, was welcomed home by her Savior on Saturday, March 6, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
Throughout her life, Sue touched the lives of many people as beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, colleague and friend.
Born near Idabel, Oklahoma, third daughter of Kate and Newton Denson, she was a true daughter of "Little Dixie" and married Alabama native, Joe Esco, on June 5, 1945, in DeLand, Florida. Her professional life began as a switchboard operator at WKY-TV where she continued to work until the birth of her first child.
Sue loved to dance, play a keyboard by ear and sing. Music was paramount: from square dancing to fox trot; rapid delivery of "Chopsticks" with any small child to classical renditions; and instant harmony on vocals – Sue was in her element. She was always active in her children's lives, from PTA President to Girl Scout Troop Leader; always active in her faith community, from chairing annual church bazaars to rolling cancer bandages at Village United Methodist Church, and always active in her home community. She was an original host of Dinners a l'Art, which benefited the Oklahoma Museum of Art and served as a board member of Ballet Oklahoma. Sue was also affiliated with Pen and Quill; Alpha Chi Omega; and The Christian Women's Club.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Esco, of Oklahoma City; her daughter Susan Esco Chandler and husband Alfred, of Rowley, Massachusetts; son Steven Joe Esco and wife Susan, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Elizabeth Crain, Jonathan Crain and Kylie Esco; sister JoAnn Taylor of Oklahoma City, many nieces, nephews and several cousins. Sue's generosity, love of life and gracious presence will be with us always.
A celebration of her life held at Crossings Community Church, Wednesday, March 10.
