Mr. Lindsley died of cancer Monday in a Portland foster care center. He was 66.
Born Oct. 13, 1926, in Oregon City, he was raised in West Linn and attended West Linn High School. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Signal Corps, he served in the South Pacific and was involved in the invasion of the Leyte Islands in the Philippines and in the occupation of Japan.
After his discharge in 1947, Mr. Lindsley worked for the Columbia River Log Scaling Bureau for about 16 years until 1967. He then was the principal log buyer for Kanematsu-Goshu for 17 years and had worked for Pacific Log Scalers for seven years until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Lindsley taught Japanese at Portland State University and at several community colleges. During his retirement years, he operated an automotive parts distribution service.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to Providence Hospice.
