Restaurantier and horseman. He was one of six children. He was two years old when his mother died and his father, Jake Toole, couldn't raise the three smallest children by himself so he put them in an orphanage. Sammy graduated from North High School and then joined the Navy. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Afterwards he became a mail carrier.

In 1948, he bought Taylor's Supper Club with a partner, Tommy Shields. But after they'd spent their savings to buy the place, they didn't have the $5,000 it would have cost to change the name. So they kept it as Taylor's, which was a small restaurant that was known for its barbecued ribs and chicken baskets. It became nationally reknowned after he began booking a lot of the musicians such as Rosemary Clooney, the Four Freshmen and Fabian.

He leased the club in 1976, but stayed on as adviser until he sold the club in 1980.

What he wanted to do was raise and ride champion cutting horses. And he did. After selling Taylor's in 1980, Toole and his wife Rose bought a 47-acre ranch in Longmont and raised horses. They enjoyed the ranch life for nine years before returning to the restaurant scene in 1999 when he re-opened the remodeled Sammy's Restaurant on West Colfax Avenue.

Survived by his daughter, Joanne Swan and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cause of death: diabetes and a heart attack.
