ESCONDIDO -- Montana Calac, 87, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008. She was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Twin Falls, Idaho to Elmer William and Charlotte (Mitchell) French.

She was a retired owner of a retail business. She served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946. Montana was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido. She also enjoyed playing tennis and golf in her spare time.

She is survived by her husband, Leo Calac of Rincon Reservation; son and his wife, Gordon (Linda) Calac of Irvine; daughter, Mavany Verdugo of Rincon Reservation; grandson and his wife, David (Rebecca) Verdugo of San Marcos; granddaughter, Lea Verdugo of Carlsbad; grandson, Brian Ramsey of Rincon Reservation; granddaughter and her husband, Kristina (Christopher) Ross of Irvine; and great-granddaughters, Penelope Verdugo and Camile Ross.
