Birth: Jun. 28, 1906
Death: Apr. 15, 2001

Lena Allinson, 94, Stillwater, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Stillwater Medical Center.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home. Dr. William S. Inglish will officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Allinson was born June 28, 1906, just outside of Crystal Springs, Ark. She was the first child in a family of eight children born to Jonas and Louisa "Lula" (White) Spiva. She attended a traditional one-room school in rural Arkansas until contracting smallpox in 1919. While still in recovery, Allinson packed up with her family and boarded a train bound for Stillwater. The Spiva family rented a farmstead west of Stillwater to begin cotton farming.

After settling into her new community, Allinson attended Cottonwood School, just west of town. Within a couple of years of her move to Oklahoma, she met the love of her live, Merle Allinson. The couple wed Sept. 28, 1923, at the Payne County Courthouse. To this union two daughters were born, Maxine Largent and Vera Bilyeu. Despite temporary moves to Shawnee, Sulphur and the San Francisco area, the Allinsons kept Stillwater as their home for over 70 years. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church.

Besides maintaining a home for her two daughters, Allinson worked in agriculture (cotton and pecan farming), as a crew supervisor in the shipyards in California during World War II, and kept books for her husband's painting business. Allinson loved to do macramé and crochet. Her last project was a crocheted baby blanket for her 10th great grandchild four and half years ago.

Allinson is preceded in death by her her beloved husband, Merle in 1993; her parents, Lula and Jonas Spiva; sisters, Reta Keys and Lois Spiva; brothers, Howell, Willard and Dale Spiva; and sons-in-laws, Winsel Bilyeu and Max Gilbert.

She is survived by her two daughters, Maxine Largent and husband Ray, Republic, Mo.; Vera Bilyeu, Stillwater; six grandchildren, Jerry Lofties and wife Elizabeth, Yukon; Diane Bennett and husband Don, West Plains, Mo.; Gaylia Perry and husband Steve, Springfield, Mo.; Mike Bilyeu and wife Marjorie, Bozeman, Mont.; Kevin Bilyeu and wife Starla, Cushing; Kara Brown and husband Derek, Bristow; one sister, Doris Wilson, Perkins; two brothers, J.C. Spiva and wife Marion, Stillwater; Paul Spiva and wife Albertha, Perkins; and 11 very special great grandchildren.

Pallbearers include her grandsons and three oldest great-grandsons, Erik and Justin
Bennett, West Plaines, Mo.; and Bryan Bilyeu, Cushing.

Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, 411 W. Mathews, Stillwater, 74075.
