Robert was born in Delware County,Muncie, IN,prior to his family moving Long Beach,CA. Robert was drafted and selected to be in the Marines 8 March 1966,Los Angeles,CA. When Robert Boyer arrived in Vietnam 14 May 1967,he was assigned to Echo Company,2nd Battalion,3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Robert was WIANE with shrapnel to his left hand in the vicinity of Gio Linh. During an engagement with entrenched NVA forces and while rescuing a wounded Marine and taking him to safety,Robert died as a result of a burst of enemy rifle fire when a bullet hit him on the head,at LZ Hawk,Bao An Dong,Go Noi Island,Quang Nam Province,during Operation Auburn. Corp Boyer was single and served his country for 1 year,9 months and 22 days.KIA#19,464. Robert had been in Vietnam 7 months and 14 days.He was 21 years and 14 days old.He was their only son. Survived by his parents;Everett S & Alice Marie Boyer,and 3 sisters,of 4440 Maury,Long Beach, CA. His grandparents;Roy Charles & Carrie Boyer. His grandmother;Katherine McClary. His uncles & aunts;Robert Lee & Lula Virginia Boyer,and;Earl T & Mary Bernice Boyer.
NOTE:Robert was buried in a grave next to LCpl Patrick Emmett Anglim. Both died during combat,during Operation Auburn,while serving with Echo Company.They were both residents of Long Beach,CA. Both were only sons.
