Arden O. Anderson, age 78, of Brainerd, MN, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis from complications following heart surgery. He was born in Cooperstown, ND, July 16, 1926, to Oscar and Gladys (Olson) Anderson of Grandin, ND. Arden served in the U.S. Navy (1944-46) and the U.S. Naval Reserve (1946-55). He was a graduated of the Universities of Minnesota, North Dakota, and Washington (Medial School). He interned at Anchor Hospital (St. Paul, MN). He married Bertha (Bertie) Weizensteiner in 1951. He practiced family medicine at Lake Region Clinic, Brainerd (1955-1991). Arden served as President of the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians and as Chairman of the American Academy of Family Physicians and held several other positions within those two organizations and the Minnesota Medical Association.
Dr. Anderson was an active community volunteer with many Brainerd Lakes Area organizations. He was Board Chairman of the American Bancorporation (Brainerd) from 1987 to 2004 and a Board Member from 1972 to 2004.
He is survived by his wife Bertie and five children: Brian (Candace) Anderson of Owatonna, MN, Kevin (Barbara) Anderson of Federal Way, WA, Gayle (Tim) Ober if St. Paul, MN, Oran Anderson of L'Anse, MI, Beth Moorhead of Edina, MN, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Lois (Ness) Ness of North Branch, MN, two nieces, one nephew, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with family and friends gathering one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be later that day.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to: Trinity Lutheran Church (1420 S. 6th St., Brainerd, MN 56401), the Lakes Area Concert Association (P.O. Box 96, Brainerd, MN 56401), State Services for the Blind (2200 University Avenue, Ste. 240, St. Paul, MN 55114) or a charity of the donor's choice.
