James V. Adkins
James V. Adkins, 90, of Columbus died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Before his retirement in 1982, Mr. Adkins was a supervisor at Cummins Engine Co. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Stephen Banet officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made through Hathaway-Myers Chapel, 1022 Pearl St., to Hospice of South Central Indiana or St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

Mr. Adkins was born in Burns City Oct. 16, 1917, the son of Henry and Nora Wagner Adkins. He married Monica Kidwell Dec. 31, 1937, at Loogootee.
Survivors include sons, James (Katheryn) Adkins of Lexington, Ky., Gregory (Kristin) Adkins of Columbus and Mark Stephen (Judye) Adkins of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Beverly Pardieck of Richmond; grandchildren, Lynn (Joe) Darnell of Snohomish, Wash., Liz (Billy) Atkins of Eaton, Ohio, Jimmy (Heather) Adkins of Georgetown, Ky., Stephanie Adkins of Louisiana, Benjamin and Mark Adkins, both of Columbus, and Jeremy Scott and Jennifer Erin Adkins, both of Charlotte, N.C.; a nephew, Ed (Geneva) Hitchcock; nieces, Patsy (Henry) Dye and Norma (Mike) Thrasher; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on June 30, 2006; and a sister, Laverne Hitchcock.

The funeral for James V. Adkins, 90, of Columbus was conducted Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Stephen Banet officiating. Eucharist minister was Beverly Pardieck, cantor was Mark Adkins, readers were Greg and Jim Adkins and gift bearers were Kristen and Jennifer Adkins, Lynn Darnell and Liz Atkins. The eulogy was read by Mark Adkins, and prayers of the faithful were read by Judye Adkins.
Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark, Ben, Jeremy, Greg, Jim and Jimmy Adkins and Ed Hitchcock.
