Calvin Elvin Blackwell was born on March 22, 1925, in Murphy, Oklahoma, to Earnest Alvin and Annie Lea (Fleming) Blackwell. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at his home in Murphy, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 8 days.

Growing up, Calvin attended Omega School in Murphy. On March 13, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Calvin and Jewell Williams were united in marriage. Calvin worked for some time at the Dupont Powder Plant and had been involved with the construction of dams up and down the Grand River. He also worked for Spartan Aircraft. He retired in 1980 as a mechanic for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa.

Calvin was of the Pentecostal faith and a lifetime Murphy resident. He was a member of the NRA and Union #1093. Calvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was also proud to be able to hunt and find Morel Mushrooms. He was so thankful for his family. At every family gathering he would start the prayer with "everybody that's thankful, lets pray." He was a kind and compassionate person, always giving to others, even strangers, that came through Murphy.

Calvin is survived by: his wife of over 62 years: Jewell, of the home; 4 daughters: Dorothy "Dot" Shepherd and husband Eddie of Murphy, Oklahoma, Sandi Piatek and husband Ted of Murphy, Oklahoma, Shelley Meeker and husband Don of Murphy, Oklahoma, and Jewell-Leigh Nicholas of Coweta, Oklahoma; 1 son: Kelvin Blackwell of Murphy, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren: Chris Shepherd, Josh Shepherd, Katrina Shepherd Roberson and husband Keith, Matt Blackwell and Johnnie Atkinson, Melissa Blackwell, Shanon Patterson, Misty (Patterson) Buske and husband Brian, Ben Meeker and wife Bridgette, Cherry Meeker, Caleb Roberson, Aaron Bristol, Amanda Blackwell, Gabby Blackwell, Noah Nicholas, K.T. Nicholas, and Manny Jona Nicholas; 18 great grandchildren: Mariah, Dylan, Keitan, Graci, Shawn, Michael, Matty, Mallory, Samantha, Jessica, Josh, Jordan, Anthony, Bob, Frank, Haley, Anthony, and Donnie; other relatives and a host of friends.

Calvin was preceded in death by: his parents; 1 sister: Lennie Blackwell; 3 brothers: Sam Blackwell, Roy Blackwell, and Raymond Blackwell; 1 son: Calvin E. Blackwell, Jr.; 1 daughter: Kathy Botkin; 1 son-in-law: Bill Botkin; 2 granddaughters: Sandra Dawn Shepherd and Valerie Kirk; 1 greatgrandson: Calvin Miles Blackwell; and a special mother-in-law: Minnie Layton.

Graveside services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Haner-Adair Cemetery near Locust Grove. Reverend Randy Vance and Reverend Eugene Grace officiated. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
