FERRIDAY — Services for Willie F. Smedley, 84, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Young's Funeral Home with Brother Richard Cullum officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Smedley was born June 25, 1924, in Hope, Ark., the son of Edgar and Mamie Smedley. He was retired from International Paper Company after 30 years of service and was also a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene Smedley and Raymond Smedley; and one grandson, William Samuel Gillespie.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Brooks Smedley; three daughters, Dorothy Gillespie and husband, Son, both of Jigger, La., Brenda Tarver and husband, Wayne, and Barbara Tucker and husband, Pat, all of Ferriday, one son, William Smedley and wife, Helen, both of Ferriday; two stepdaughters, June Hines and husband, Jim, both of Paris, Texas, and Jeannie Carroll of China; one stepson, Edwin Carroll of Vidalia; four sisters, Mildred Francis of Ferriday, Annie Ruth Greenlee and Martha Greenlee, both of Dallas, and Patricia Harris of Vidalia; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Gillespie, Eddie Tarver, Joseph Tarver, Jake Smedley, Joel Smedley, Chris Carroll and Michael Ennis.
The honorary pallbearers will be David Gillespie, John Tarver, Justin Tarver and Billy Passona.
