KERMIT H. PETERSEN

Kermit H. Petersen of Holyoke was born September 3, 1919 at Elsie, Nebraska to Hans and Ida Olson Petersen. He died Wednesday, December 21, 1994 in Denver at the age of 75. Kermit had been suffering from emphysema and had been moved to Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver.

Kermit was the seventh of nine children. When he was a young boy the family moved from their sod house at Elsie to a homestead south of Haxtun. He attended grade school at Highland Center and started high school in North Platte, Nebraska after the family moved back to Nebraska.

Petersen later returned to Elsie and on May 4, 1940 he married Myrtle Welton in Imperial, Nebraska. Kermit and Myrtle moved to Holyoke and spent their entire married life here.

He worked for area farmers until 1952 when he went to work for the City of Holyoke in the electrical department until his health forced his retirement in 1982.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, four sisters, infant daughter Patricia Jo and two great grandchildren: Brandon Lenhart and Taylor Bahnsen.

Survivors include wife Myrtle of Holyoke; son Ron and his wife Kathy of Yuma; daughters Janice and her husband Mike Hibbard of Commerce City, Linda and her husband Steve Bahnsen of Haxtun and Teresa and her husband Dan Waln of Holyoke; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters Hillive Griess of Anaheim, California and Phyllis Cooter of Dallas, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Friday, December 23, 1994 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
