James Riddick "Jack" BRITTAIN, 89, long-time resident and more recently a resident at Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter, died Thursday, January 7, at the center. Born in Suffolk, Virginia on October 31, 1909, he was the son of the late James and Effie Riddick Brittain, and the husband of the late Gretchen Fulford Brittain who preceded him in death. Mr. Brittain was a retired seafood dealer and operator of the former Engelhard Ice Plant. He was a member of the Engelhard United Methodist Church, the Mattamuskeet Lodge #328 AF & AM and Sudan Temple. Surviving are three nephews: P.D. Midgett, III of Southport, George Midgett of Denver and Bernard Midgett of Buxton; a niece, Martha M. Kelly of Richmond, Virginia; and several cousins. Funeral services were to be held at the gravesite in Amity Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Rev L. Ray Sparrow was to officiate and Masonic gravesite rites were to be given by
Mattamuskeet Lodge #328. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter.
