Mrs. Martha Matilda Thorpe, 87, died Thursday at 10:10 p.m. at her home here after an illness of 10 years with a broken hip.
She was born May 25, 1852 at Savoy, daughter of Sam and Minerva Lawson Cook, both Tennesseans, and was married in 1880 at Savoy to William Thorpe. She was a member of the Mt. Comfort Methodist church.
Funeral services held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Nelson-Savage chapel with Rev. Samuel H. Rainey in charge. Burial was at Mt. Comfort cemetery.
Pallbearers was Elmer and Earl Weir, Hugh Mount, Fred Raedels, Morgan Kelly and Dr. Fred Stanford.
Mrs. Thorpe is survived by six children, Sam and Miss Emma Thorpe at home, Albert of Baldwin, Stanley of Louisiana, Mrs. T. W. Hulse of Ft. Smith, and Mrs. C. E. Yount of Riverside, Calif.; two step-daughters, Mrs. John Feathers of Fayetteville and Mrs. C. A. Williams of Lonoke; 28 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren and one brother, A. C. Cook, of Savoy.
