He was a Kirby, Illinois resident at the time of his enlistment on October 11, 1861 (149 years ago today).
He was subsequently mustered in as a Private of Company B, 51st Regiment Illinois Regiment at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois on December 24, 1861.
With his initial enlistment expired, he re-enlisted on December 24, 1863. Six-months later, on June 20, 1864, he was killed-in-action at Kenesaw Mountain, near Atlanta, Georgia.
