Mike Cellos services held here Monday
Mike Cellos, retired restaurant owner and American Legion leader of Winona, died about 5 a.m. Sunday at the South Sunflower Hospital in Indianola after a week's illness. He was 72.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church here. Burial was in the Indianola Cemetery, with Oliver Funeral Home of Winona in charge.
He was born in Skokelos, Greece, and moved to the United States in 1911. He lived in Pensacola, Fla., and Demopolis, Ala., before moving to Winona in 1928. He owned and operated the Winona Cafe for many years and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
A Veteran of World War, he was active in American Legion activities and took a lead in development of Legion Lake, a recreational area near here.
In recognition of his long membership, he was given a life-time membership, and the skating pavilion at the lake was named Mike Cellos Hall.
He leaves his wife; a daughter, Mrs. R. M. Randall of Indianola; a son, Jack Cellos of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters living in Greece and four grandchildren.
