Emil Baumgart was born April 30,1860, to Ferdinand Baumgart and his wife Wilhelmine nee'Schulz at Schoenlanke, Germany. He died here at Okabena, Minnesota, on Monday afternoon,Oct. 14, 1:30 p.m.,reaching the age of 80 years, 5 months,and 14 days. The cause of his death was old age and hardening og the arteries. Emil Baumgart grew up in Germany. In 1884 he was married to Mrs. Auguste Moratzka. Five years later he and his family migrated to America and settled first at Streator, Illinois. In 1892 the family came to Jackson county Minnesota and engaged in farming until 1915. In that year, 1915, the Okebena schools were consolidated and Emil became one of the first school bus drivers. He continued in this work until June, 1928. All the while he used horses to haul in the school children. In December, 1927, Mrs. Emil Baumgart passed away, and thereafter for five years Father Baumgart made his home with Henry Lueck family, west of Okabena. Returning to our village, he lived alone until about a year and a half ago, when he suffered a stroke and was no longer able to stay alone. Since that time he made his home with his son, Adolph, unitl his death last week. The Emil Baumgart funeral was held last Thursday afternoon. The services were held at the Adolph Baumgart Jr., home abd at two o'clock in St. John's Lutheran Church. Rev.Schweikert officated. A ladies choir under the direction of Mrs. Art Ahrens sang Christianson's arrangemant of Jesus Lover of My Soul. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, namely, Arnold Baumgart, Arnold Lueck, Martin Moratzka and Alvin Raymond and Lester Baumgart. Interment was made at the Lutheran Cemetery south of Okabena. Those who live to survive Father Baumgart are his three sons,Adolph of Okabena, Rudolph and Wiliam of Brewster; two brothers, Adolph Sr., of Okabena and Albert of Brewster;also 24 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Of his step-children, Mrs Henry Kates preceded him in death three years ago. The surviving step-children are Mrs. Henry Lueck, and Robert Moratzka of the local community, August Moratzka of Rushmore,Minn, and Gust Moratzka of Worthington; also 42 step-grandchildren and 40 great step-grandchildren. Father Emil Baumgart was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany. He continued his membership in the Lutheran Church and since 1912 was a member of the Okabena Lutheran Church. Out of town relatives who attended the furneralwere: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moratzka of Fargo N.D.,Mr. and Mrs. August Morazka of Rushmore, Mr. and Mrs.Gust Moratzka of Worthington, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moratzka of Windom.
