Rose Eagleston was the youngest child of John and Mary Eagleston, who were born in Ireland.
The 1870 Federal Census for New York City, New York, done 13 July 1870, lists Rose's parents, John and Mary Eggleston, her two older brothers, and her two older sisters. Rose is not listed as she was not born yet (New York Ward 18, District 21, page #61, #17-22).
The 1880 Federal Census for Manhattan, New York lists John's last name as Eggleston, not Eagleston. Rose is listed as the youngest daughter, age 8, who is at school, and was born in New York of parents born in Ireland. Her older siblings include George, age 21, John, age 18, Catherine, age 16, and Mary, age 10. The family lives at 87 Charles Street (ED 168, Vol. 5, Sheet 8, Line 26).
Rose Eagleston married Robert Adriance sometime around 1895. (The Demarest Family Genealogy, volume 1, page VIII-52, lists their marriage date as September 30, 1895.)
The 1900 Federal Census for Manhattan, New York, done June 6, 1900, shows Rose as the wife of Robert Adriance. They are living with her stepmother, Ann Eagleston, the second wife of John Eggleston, at 28 Greenwich Avenue. Also living with them are Rose's sister, Mary, and Rose and Robert's two children, Mary, age 3, and John, age 2. Rose is a white female who was born in August, 1873. She is 26 years old and has been married for 5 years. She has 2 children, both of whom are living. She was born in New York of parents born in Ireland. No occupation is listed for her. Rose can speak, read and write English (ED101, Sheet 8, #69).
Information obtained from Sandy Adriance on 9/20/2003 indicates that Rose Eagleston died at 8:45 A.M. on December 30, 1900. She was 28 years old and died at St. Mark's Hospital after a 3 day stay. She died of septic peritonitis following laparotomy for a ruptured tubal pregnancy. Her father was John Eagleston, and her mother was Mary Eagleston. They were both born in Ireland. She was married at the time of her death. Her residence was a tenement at 28 Greenwich Ave. She had been a resident of New York City all of her life. Her death certificate is #38795 (Information obtained from New York City Deaths, 1892-1902 @ Ancestry.com). Calvary Cemetery still exists today. It is at 4902 Laurel Hills Blvd. in Woodside, New York 11377 in Queens. Phone number is (718)786-8000.
Calvary Cemetery confirms that Rose Adriance is buried there. Her grave is in Section 29, Range 11, Plot E, Grave 11 (Information obtained on 9/25/2003).
No further information is available on Rose. It is known that sometime around 1914 her children, Mary and John, were sent to Glenwood Springs, Colorado to live with her husband's sister, Bertha Adriance Beardsley.
