Joseph E. Benton, 506 East Pine Street, passed away at the family home Saturday morning at the age of 75, following a short illness. Mr. Benton, who had resided in Lodi for the past 26 years, had been employed by the city for the last 10 years. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Maude Benton, and the following children: Mrs. Vivian McLane, Lodi; Miss Dorothy Benton, Lodi; Wendel Benton, Redwood City, and Mrs. Eunice Sterne, Hollywood. Mr. Benton is also survived by five grandchildren, a brother, Fred Benton, Pasadena, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Schaffer, Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Ada Newcomb, also of Toledo. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Wells Funeral Home, where Rev. H. K. Hamilton of the First Methodist Church will officiate. Lodi Lodge, I. O. O. F., will have charge of the graveside services in Lodi Cemetery. The funeral will be under the direction of the Wells Funeral Home. Mr. Benton was a native of Monroe County, Michigan. He was a member of Crown City Lodge, I. O. O. F., of Pasadena, and had been a member of this lodge for 47 years.
