Francheska, nicknamed "Cheka", grew up as a shy timid kid who was from the tough streets of Chicago's West Side – afraid of horror movies and bugs. She graduated in 2006 from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, Illinois where she joined the ROTC and a dance team. After graduation, she decided to join the Army in February 2007 because she wanted to travel, get a degree and do something special with her life. The Army turned the scared little girl into a confident and strong woman who drove fuel tankers. Francheska was one of the happiest people you could hope to meet and she was happiest when she was dancing. Her favorite dances were the salsa and the merengue. She had been back on base for only three days when she was killed. She was filling out paperwork for maternity leave when a disgruntled U.S. Army psychiatrist killed 13 people and injured more than 30 others before he was brought down. Francheska was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
