Robert Wallace is the son of Samuel Wallace and Elizabeth Jane Archer;

It is believed that Robert is the brother of Samuel Wallace, Rachel Wallace, Jannet Wallace and Joseph Wallace. (There were many Wallace's of the same names and similar birth dates in Augusta and neighboring counties during that time; they were most likely cousins. It is difficult to be absolutely certain that we have the correct siblings.)

Robert Wallace married Esther Boyd in 1769 or 1770...marriage records have not yet been found.
Their children are as follows:
Margaret Wallace (Mrs. Benjamin Erwin), James Wallace (Wife, Catherine "Katie" Newman Wallace), Robert Boyd Wallace (Wife, Mary Alexander Wallace), John W. Wallace (Wife, Elizabeth Graham Wallace), Moses Wallace (Wife, Elizabeth Kerr Wallace) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Wallace (Mrs. David Griffith).

During the Revolutionary War, in October 1774, Robert Wallace was a Private with Captain John Murray's Regiment in The Battle of Point Pleasant; he was serving with Captain Young's Company from Augusta County, Virginia.

Robert Wallace was a large land-holder at the time of his death and he was able to leave a considerable estate to his wife and children. (*Robert's Great-Granddaughter, Maude Wallace Campbell, joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1934 as the Decendant of Robert Wallace; a copy of Robert's Will is among the many family documents in our possession.)

Robert Wallace died in 1812; he is buried near his wife, Esther Boyd Wallace, and other Wallace family members, in the Old Lebanon Cemetery near Craigsville, not far from the home where he raised his family.

Robert Wallace, my 4th Great-Grandfather, is remembered by all of the families who have passed along the information about him.

*Note: The Old Lebanon Cemetery had been overgrown with thick shrubbery and fallen trees and forgotten for many years; in the early 2000's some wonderful people, including Daley Craig, John Robert Wallace and other family members of those originally buried there, took on the task of restoring the cemetery and attempting to piece together what they could of the broken headstones. Many of the monuments had been partially buried, many others were beyond repair, and many had simply disintegrated. There are some stones remaining that either do not have any writing on them or the writing is so worn that it is no longer legible. Esther's and Robert Wallace's stones are among these, although many of the family headstones are in good condition. We are so grateful to the wonderful, caring people who attempted such a project....they not only restored a cemetery, they restored the memories of our loved ones for future generations. THANK YOU!
