Susan W. Smith 1950 ~ 2010 Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Susan Wendell Smith, age 60, passed away April 3, 2010 at her home in Hoytsville, Utah after a valiant battle with cancer. Sue was born March 5th, 1950 to Ronald G. Underwood and Maxine McNeil Underwood in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ron and Maxine later divorced and Sue was raised by her mother and adopted father, Loren Wendell. She attended and graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City. She attended Utah State University with a scholarship from The Salt Lake Teachers Association. Sue married Michael Smith on June 7th, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. Sue and Mike moved to Park Valley, Utah and later to Vernal, Utah and then Hoytsville, Utah. Sue was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including the Primary Organization, Young Women's Organization, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She especially enjoyed doing Temple work. Sue spent her life doing what she loved most, being a wife and mother. She enjoyed many talents of which Quilting and Counted Cross Stitch were her favorites. She helped with the Home Arts Department of the Summit County Fair for many years. She was also a member of the Coalville Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Sue is survived by her husband Michael; sons Robert (Macall), Trenton, Ut; David (Trudy), Snowville, Ut; Jeffrey (Marie), Heber City, Ut; and Bradley (Jaime), Kamas, Utah; 16 grandchildren; brother, Winn (Mary) Wendell,Junction City, Oregon; sisters Deborah (Chet) Williams, Forest Grove, Oregon; and Lydia (Gene) Jackson, Tacoma Wa. Nephew Scott Wendell, Niece Jennifer Wendell, Nieces Naomi and Kim Williams and Niece Marie Jackson Funeral services will be held in the Hoytsville LDS Ward, 1095 S. Hoytsville Road, Hoytsvile, Utah on April 8th at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held April 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hoytsville Ward and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on April 8th prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Park Valley Cemetery, Park Valley, Utah on Fri., April 9th at 11:00 a.m. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving help and care given by the staff of Alpine Hospice, especially Kathy Stephens, Marcine Littledike and Elsie Ercanbrack. The funeral will be under the direction of Goff Mortuary.
