Obituary: The home of Jacob H. Eckman, of Lancaster Township, is shrouded in the deepest gloom, as the chilly hand of death entered the portals of that cheery home and claimed the spirit of a kind and loving husband and an indulgent father. The feeling of sorrow which is caused by the death of Mr. Eckman is not confined to his home alone, but whereever the deceased was known, as he had the reputation of being a good, honest upright man. Death, which was due to pleuro-pneumonia, occurred Thursday, October 31, at noon. Deceased was 59 years, 3 months, and 20 days old and leaves a sorrowing wife and six children to mourn his death. The children are Mrs. John Hacker, and misses Minnie and Lena [Leatha], and Seth, Roscoe and Charles Eckman. The funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the house, Rev. Daniel Winebrenner officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery near Lancaster. (Huntington Democrat, Huntington, Indiana, Thursday, November 7, 1895)
