John died on 25 May 1863 from Typhoid disease, during the Civil War. He served with the 18th Missouri Calvary and other regiments. On 21 Aug 1888, he was issued a headstone for deceased Union Civil War Veterans. Elizabeth never remarried and continued to live in Fosterburg with her brother, Jasper,until her death in 1923.
Records indicate another tombstone in Fosterburg Cemetery in Row 50 next to daughter Martha who died in 1855.
