The sudden death at 4;45 o'clock last Friday afternoon, December 19, 1978, of Edd Jopseh Conner, resident of Shamrock the past 21 years, shocked and grieved his many friends through this area.
Mr. Conner, 68 years old, died of a heart attack at his home, 905 North Texas Street. Although he had been in ill health since January 14, when he suffered a broken ankle, his condition had not been considered serious.
Funeral services were conducted from the First Christian Church at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Vernie Pipes, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mathis, in charge, assisted by Bedford W. Smith, minister of the First Christian Church of Memphis, and Roy Tomlinson, minister of the First Christian Church of Shamrock.
Pall bearers were: John Nunn, John Cullers, Glen Henry, Wilton Cole, Sam Thompson and Jack Whitten. Named as honorary pall bearers were: William L. Orrick, Virgil Agan, Elmer J. Moore, Dallas Clynch, W.E. Sheegog, Clayton George and Edward M. Burkhalter.
Clay Funeral Home was in charge of interment in the Shamrock Cemetery.
Mr. Conner was born at Corsicana, January 16, 1881. On August 4, 1904, at Post Oak, Texas, he was married to Miss Kathryn Pipes. Two of the 10 children born to the union preceded their father in death. A daughter, Sarah Jane, passed away in 1921, at the age of one year, and a son. J.D., was killed in a truck crash March 23, 1933, at the age of 22.
The Conner family moved to Shamrock in 1928. Since 1939, he had worked as custodian of Shamrock School buildings and was known by many school children for countless kindnesses to them during his long term of service with the school system.
