There seems to be some mystery about the lineage of Briant's father, John. We do have handwritten records listing the births of all his siblings, and this definitely links him to the Morgan Young line. John was likely secretive about his parents, and his deceased wife: nobody knows her name. Briant seems to have been a good son, and a prolific father. The family did well under his supervision, though illness eventually ate away at his fortune. Briant was his paternal grandmother's maiden name, and he was proud of it. His first name varied a lot: He went by Bryant and Briant, and was also referred to as S.B., and B.S., and Samuel. On the probate of his nephew, Bryant Benjamin Herrick, he signed his name S. Bryant Young.

Gravesite Details

Even though the marker reads "Bryant", it appears to be in error. In his father's death records, he clearly signed his name "Briant S. Young". There are other times the name is abbreviated "S.B." or "B.S.". There's quite a lot of variation.
