Mahala Corbitt Moudy and John S. Moudy (1836-1887) had 2 single births (Mary Agnes and Charles) with 3 twin births: Jane Bathsheba and William S, Amy May and John Edward, Nellie Evelyn and Stella Demaris. She had other single births, but they died when they were very young and their names are not known.
William Moudy, Jane's twin brother, died about the age of thirteen of the small pox.
After the death of her husband John Moudy, Mahala Moudy married Dempsey K. Rule on Feb 12, 1891 in Pawnee, OK. They had no children of their own, but after the death of Mahla's two daughters, Nellie Moss and Stella Moss, Mahala raised all of their children which totaled six. When Dempsey wanted to know why she didn't put the children in an orphanage, Mahala said she couldn't because they were her kin. Dempsey left her right then, putting his Civil War cape over her shoulders and telling her that should keep her warm. Mahala later found him across the state line married to a much younger girl. He never did divorce her.
Mahala is buried next to her grand daughters Helen and Goldie (Nellie's daughters) and her son John (unmarked grave).
Mahala is the daughter of William H. Corbitt and Mary Jane Connelly, a full blood Cherokee.
