Nicholas was the sixth child born to Jacob Bach and Anna Jost Bach. He was born on October 26th, 1880, in Diefflen, Saarlouis, Saarland, Germany. The Bach family emigrated to America, arriving in April of 1884, first in New York, then moving on to Murray County, Minnesota, near the small town of Avoca. Nicholas was listed on the 1900 U.S. Census as being deaf and dumb, but lived with his family until the death of his mother, Anna on January 13th, 1907. After her death, he was placed in the Minnesota School for the Feeble Minded in Faribault, Minnesota, where he remained until his death on Dec 31st, 1948. The cause of his death is listed on his death certificate as coronary disease due to atherosclerosis. He is buried under the same headstone as his older brother, Adam.
