Services for George Clinton Abernathy, 87, of 491 S. Franklin St., were Tuesday in Capitol Mortuary's Chapel of the Angels. Burial was in Fairmount.
Abernathy, who died Sunday, was born Feb. 27, 1883, in Clark County, Mo. He was educated in St. Francisville, Mo.
As a young man, he ran a stage line from St. Francisville to Wayland, Mo., carrying mail, freight and passengers. He homesteaded five miles northeast of Cheyenne Wells, Wyo., in 1906 and he and the former Cora Rose Schaffer were married in Cheyenne Wells in 1909.
He later lived in Garden City, Kan., and came to Denver in 1935.
Abernathy was a brick layer.
He is survived by a son, George H., Denver; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Cecil, Denver; a sister, Mrs. Luella M. Sawyer, Denver, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
