Bill was born on April 21, 1933 to Clara (Farrelley) Anker and William T. Johnstone. Johnstone died when Bill was an infant and Clara married Frank P. Anker. Frank adopted Bill in 1943 and he was their only child.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, four children, Bill (Lenette), Billy Geyer, Cathy, Dan (Denise) and six grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by two sons, Steve Anker and Bob Zowada.
In 1951, after graduating from Lakewood High School, Bill joined the Navy. He served active duty for 6 years in the pacific, during the Korean War, aboard the USS' McGoffin, Roberts and Prairie. He attained the rank of CPO and his combat exposure included commanding landing craft during amphibious assaults. He remained in the Navy reserves until 1968. After his discharge from active duty, Bill was a Glazier and he worked on several of Denver's high rise buildings. At the same time he invested in numerous real-estate ventures. His hard work and investments allowed him to retire at age 48. In 1980, Bill and Betty finished building their own home in Lawson, CO and were living there at the time of his death.
After retiring, Bill restored cars and worked with his family on several home restorations, and various other construction projects. In his final years, he enjoyed watching football and golf on TV. He always had a cold beer on hand for his family and friends.
