GREENWOOD - Betty Ruth (Carter) Chambers, 79, of Greenwood and formerly of Harrods- burg, IN, went home to be with our Lord on Monday at Regency Place in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Chambers, and one grandson, John A. Chambers Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Wilda Jeanne Lipperd (Max) of Indianapolis; and her son, John Allen Chambers (Gwen) of Greenwood; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Smithville High School, and was accepted into the Army Corps of Nursing. After graduating from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing she worked as a registered nurse for more than fifty years, mostly in Bedford.
She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church and Methodist Women's Group. She served on the board and was active in volunteer work. She was a member of the Stanford AM Eastern Star, and a member of the Harrodsburg Lions Club.
She enjoyed painting and won several awards for her work.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home with Revs. Holly Hardsaw and David Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
