Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Spencer, 88 years old, member of a pioneer Jasper county family who died at 10:35 o'clock last night at the home of a son, James Spencer, 426 South Madison street, will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Hedge-Nelson funeral home. The Rev. Allen Brenbridge, pastor of the Joplin Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery.
Pallbearers will be E.R. Justin, Charles Smuck, George Hall, Ros Williams, Frank Stokes and Charles Bennett.
Mrs. Spencer had made her home with the son for four years. She lived in Webb City 58 years and was the widow of J.M. Spencer, who died 12 years ago.
She was a daughter of Mose Van Hoose, an early settler in the county, and a sister of the late J.H. Van Hoose, who for many years was engaged in mining and the real estate business here.
Surviving are two sons, James Spencer of Webb City, and Claude Spencer of Collinsville, Ill; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Randall of Joplin, Mrs. Tillie Holton of St. Louis, and Mrs. Mary Bouse of Bremerton, Wash.; two sisters, a brother, and 19 grandchildren.
