Delores Juanita Bacon was born on April 18, 1924 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Wilbur Clyde, Sr. and Juanita Beatrice (Norris) Powell. She was the eldest of six children: Delores, Wilbur, Jr., Wilma, Wesley, Darlene and Darrell. She attended the Allison Elementary School and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1942.
Wilma introduced Delores to Vearl Albert Bacon at a skating rink. They were united in marriage on June 28, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas where they together established their first home. On Christmas Eve of 1942 Vearl received induction papers to the US Army. Delores stayed in Wichita and worked as a riveter and Vearl reported for duty. When Vearl was classified as permanent, he was able to move Delores and their new daughter whom he had never seen, to the base where he was stationed in Tonopah, Nevada. On the couple's third anniversary, they were joined by a son, Vearl, Jr. Just a few days later Vearl received papers to report to Denver, Colorado. On route to Denver the war ended and the family decided to stay in Denver where Vearl had the opportunity to attend watchmaker's school. When his training was complete in 1948 the family moved to McPherson, where they opened a new business and began building a home for their growing family.
This union was blessed with a total of ten children: Donna, Vearl, Jr., Dea Anne, Stephen, Vashti, Lavonna, Martha, John, Mary, and Rebecca. Delores was a homemaker and took great pride in providing for her family. Her loving care was often extended to nieces and nephews and other children and adults. Once her children left home, she went to school and received her CNA and worked for the Cedars in McPherson and Pleasant View Home in Inman. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law in her home until they passed away. She was a faithful Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, care-giver and friend. Delores was always surrounded by her family. She prayed daily for her family and had high ideals and expectations for her children. She loved God with all her heart, and knew that was most important in this life.
Delores attended Bible Holiness Church of Great Bend, Wheatland Baptist Church and New Hope Evangelical Church, both of McPherson.
