"Mrs Florence Hartshorn buried at Waverly" Waverly Gazette: Funeral services for Mrs Florence Hartshorn were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 pm from the Jones Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Michaelson officiating. Mrs Hartshorn passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs Joe Calvin on February 18, 1953 in Los Angeles, CA. Jack Garvey sang " The Lord's Prayer" and "It is Well with my soul" accompanied by Mrs Fontella Gillow at the Piano. Casket bearers were Joe Merrill, Gene Merrill, Linley Irey, Ray Baxter, Bill Irey and John Irey. Interment was in the Waverly cemetery Florence "Birdie" Herring was born in Jefferson Co. KS Jan 21, 1871. She united in marriage to Leslie Hartshorn in February 1890. To this union was born nine children four daughters and five sons. The oldest son, Elmer died in infancy. A son, Clyde was killed in WWI at the age of 23. Another son Robert died in 1939 at the age of 39. Surviving are four daughters and two sons, Mrs Ethel Stansbury of Englewood CO., Mrs Leota Merrill of Parker KS., Mrs Gladys Calvin, Los Angeles, CA Mrs Edna Garvey Pueblo, CO., Joe Hartshorn of Englewood CO thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildred two sisters Mrs Emma Beedle of Lenexa, and Mrs Mable Irey of Waverly Mrs Hartshorn was a member of the First Methodist Church of Pueblo, CO. also a member of the War Mothers there. Mrs Hartshorn had lived in Pueblo thirty-five years.
