John Easton Morton was born in Greenup Co., Kentucky on the 12th September in 1829.

His first trade was as a miner before he served in the Mexican War. He served three years in the Civil War of 1861-5, Under Captain R.R. Harburt in the 3rd Colorado,"A" company volunteer infantry.

He first came to Fort Scott, Bourbon Co., KS in 1870. There by his trade was delivering water by wagon way before the City had inauguration within the city and the water works system was developed. John had lived there until March of the year he took ill, and moved to the old Solders Hospital at Leavenworth, Ks. At the time of his death he was survived by a wife Margaret (research still in progress on her family) daughter of Jacob M. Jackson and eighth children, all grown.

His Obituary list his living children by name: Mrs. T J. Clark, Mrs. Mattie Taylor and Mrs. B.F. Hepworth of Kansas City, Kansas ( Not Portland, Org.,)only Mrs. E.R. Couey livied in Portland, Org. Mrs. W.W. Norris (not Morris) and Miss Pearl, and two sons, *Jacob and Earl Morton.

When he passed away the News Paper read:
"Mexican Veteran Dead", John E. Morton one of the early-day residence passed away Saturday at Military Home Near Leavenworth. Make note that John E. Morton death Certificate actually says he died on the 1st of Sept in 1912, but the papers has his death occurring on the 31 of August in 1912.
