Several online trees give her maiden name as Walker. No parents or siblings are yet identified and no marriage record found.
Margaret married Mitchell A Willis in about 1851. They are seen in the 1860 census and he worked as a carpenter in Buncombe county. There is no indication that they had children.
She is next seen in the 1880 census at the asylum in Raleigh. As can be seen from the number assigned to her, 37, she was among the first group of women transferred to the Western asylum in Morganton when it opened in May 1883.
Some online trees indicate that Margaret's husband died in 1862, perhaps related to the civil war but no military records are found for him and the censuses at both asylums indicate she was married rather than a widow.
Assistance in identifying other members of her family will be appreciated.
