Ruth Lipscomb Stegall, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009.
"Her heart is as beautiful as the flower she sets at the altar each Sunday. Mama Ruth Stegall is a Christian, the matriarch of her family, a gardener, and her name is synonymous with teacher." (From a tribute by Susan Richards Turner.)

She taught in the Bartow County Schools for 37 years and was a member of the National Education Association, the Georgia Association of Educators, and served as president and secretary of the Bartow County Association of Education. She served as president and secretary of the Magnolia Garden Club and was a charter member and hostess of the Corra Harris Garden Club. In addition she was a hospital volunteer, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Etowah Chapter of the DAR, and the American Rose Society.
In addition to her parents, Ruth Stegall was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Stegall, and infant daughter, Mary Lois Stegall; two sisters, Edythe Hann and Sally Jo Bell; two brothers, Nathan Lipscomb and Will Henry Lipscomb.
