Charles L. Albers, of Leyden Township, beloved husband of Alice, nee Shinn; loving father of Gerald (Teresa), David (Helen), Renee (John) Scaletta and the late Robert; devoted papa of Craig (Stephanie), Nichol, Sabrina, Dillon, Dustin and Allison and Katie Scaletta; great-grandpa of Connor;
cherished son of the late Frieda, nee Hothan and the late Adolph Albers, Jr.; dear brother of Donovan (the late Patricia) and Lyle (the late Linda); fond uncle and friend of many.
Lying in State Friday, Jan. 6, 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 E. Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg, IL. Interment Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, IL. Visitation Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Cuneo- Columbian Funeral Home , 10300 W. Grand Ave. (one blk. E. of Mannheim Rd.), Franklin Park, IL.

Charles Albers, 74 years of age, passed away on January 2, 2012, at home from stomach and esophageal cancer. Charles was born October 30, 1937, to the late Adolph Albers,Jr. and Frieda Hothan Albers. He went to country grade school and graduated Pawnee City High School in 1955. Charles proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1958-1964.

Charles was baptized in November 1937 and confirmed on May 13, 1951 at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Nebraska. Charles was united in marriage to Alice Shinn on June 19, 1960, at Faith Lutheran. To this union four children were born.

On July 4, 1960, Charles and Alice moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked at Olson Rug Company. In 1961 he started as a meat cutter at Hillman's foods and then in 1973 Charles became a mail carrier where he retired after 30 years.

He enjoyed collecting antiques, making items for his grandchildren and different crafts. He loved fixing lawn mowers and working on old cars, especially his 1949 red Chevy pick-up that he purchased in Pawnee, Nebraska in 1955 which he was able to enjoy driving to their 50th Wedding Anniversery celebration in 2010.

Charles loved to spend time with family and friends, going go cart riding with the grandchildren, fishing, traveling and playing with and taking care of his grandchildren. They always put a smile on his face.

Charles was preceded in death by son Robert, parents Adolf and Frieda, in-laws Emil and Lucy Shinn, brothers-in-law Ernest Shinn and Albert Panec and sisters-in-law Pat and Linda Albers.

Charles is survived by his wife, Alice, sons Gerald (Teresa) and David (Helen) and daughter Renee (John) Scaletta; seven grandchildren, one great grandson; brothers Donovan and Lyle Albers; and many nieces and nephews.
