Leonard J. Batiuk, age 81, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (nee Turchen) Batiuk and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Batiuk was employed at the General Motors Plant in the Town of Tonawanda before retiring in 1994, and he was a member of the U.A.W. Local 774 Pistol Club, the Clarence Shooting Club, the Knights of Columbus, Tonawandas Council No. 413, and was a life member of the Amvets Post 26 in North Tonawanda. He was the husband of the late Josephine "Betty" Batiuk, who died November 24, 2000, and brother of the late William Klim, John Klim, and Helen Shanahan.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Donald) Warmington of North Tonawanda; his son, Leonard R. Batiuk of Buffalo; and four grandchildren, Paul (Denise Leo) Warmington, Todd (Katie) Warmington, and Adriane and Gary. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Msgr. Richard Wetter officiating. Friends invited. Interment with Military Honors at St. Casimirs Cemetery in Muhlenburg, Pennsylvania. If desired, memorials to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for the Critical Care Unit, 2950 Elmwood Avenue, Kenmore, NY 14217, are preferred by the family.
