With the passing early last Saturday morning of Mrs. Mecie Wood Frazier, wife of J. Eugene Frazier, superintendent of the count poor farm, Colfax lost one of its best known and best loved matrons. She was taken seriously ill with influenza just a week before her death. The flu turned quickly into pneumonia which claimed her life.
Mrs Frazier was born July 28, 1874, nearly 57 years ago in Phloma, Ore., to Mr. and Mrs. William Wood. When she was still a baby the family moved to a farm near Diamond where they lived for about 12 years.
The family then moved into Colfax where she, Mecie Wood married Mr. Frazier July 3, 1894. To them five children were born, Marjorie and Eva Frazier and Mrs. Stella Lee of Colfax, Claude B. Frazier of Uniontown and Mrs. Thelma Blair of Potlatch, Ida. all of whom are living. About 20 years ago Mr. Frazier moved his family to Coeur d'Alene, Ida. where he operated a grocery store for five years, this being the only period spent away from this immediate vicinity.
She was very active in social, lodge and church circles, being a member if the Congregational church and Ladies Aid Society, the Royal Neighbors, American Legion Auxilliary, Pythian Sisters Lodge and numerous clubs. Besides the children she is survived by her husband and mother, Mrs. Sydney Wood of Colfax; three brothers, Clyde, Dave and Jess Wood; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Torrance, Mrs. Lizzie Modie and Mrs. Mary Kroetch, and five grandchildren.
The funeral, held in the Bruning Parlors Sunday afternoon, was largely attended by friends and relatives from all the surrounding communities. Rev. Henry M.McDowell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated. Grave services were conducted by the Pythian Sisters at her own request. The lodge quartette sang three numbers, "Rock of Ages," "Shadows," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Honorary pallbearers were Chester Morley, S.E. Ratliff, R.E. Voshell, George Ripley, Charles Bass, James Piper and Edward Kitts. Active pallbearers were Tom Neal, Clarence Hines, Charles Stipe, Harvey Lee, Harry Ficklin and Chester Owen.
