Civil War Veteran - Enlisted as a Musician (Fifer) on August 20, 1861, into Company B, 6th Regiment, Kansas Cavalry. Duty at Fort Scott till March 1862, Drywood Creek, Fort Scott, September 1, 1861. Morristown September 17. Osceola September 20, 21 and 22. (The 3 original Companies march to Fort Lincoln on September 1, 1861; thence return to Fort Scott.) Little Santa Fe, Mo., November 6. Regiment reorganized on March 27, 1862, and "A," "B" and "C," original Companies, mustered out.

Transferred into Company D, 5th Regiment, Kansas Infantry which was organized at Fort Scott, Kansas on March 14, 1862. The regiment was attached to Lane's Kansas Brigade. The 5th Kansas Infantry ceased to exist due to a lack of recruits. Members were consolidated with recruits from the 3rd Kansas Infantry and 4th Kansas Infantry (both of which failed to complete organization) to form the 10th Kansas Infantry.

Mustered into Company K, 10th Regiment, Kansas Infantry (Union) on April 3, 1862, at Paola, Kansas. The Regiment moved to Fort Scott, Kansas, in April 1862, and duty there until June 4. Companies on expedition into Indian Territory with the 2nd Ohio Cavalry June 13-August 15.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Battle of Old Fort Wayne, Indian Territory (October 22, 1862); Battle of Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas (December 7, 1862). Company K at Topeka, Kan., September to November 1863. The Regiment moved to St. Louis, Mo., in January 1864.

Enlisted March 28, 1864, at Brownville, Nebraska Territory, and mustered at Omaha City, N. T. on April 27, 1864, into Company C, 1st Battalion, Nebraska Veteran Cavalry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. The Regiment was attached to the District of Nebraska and operated against Indians in Nebraska and Colorado and guarded the Overland Mail routes. After the end of the Civil War, the battalion was consolidated with the 1st Nebraska Cavalry Regiment on July 10, 1865.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Duty at Fort Cottonwood, Nebraska Territory, October and November 1864. Duty at Gillman's Station until January 1865. Duty at Cottonwood Springs until February 1865, and Company "C" had duty at Fort Cottonwood, until July 1865.

Transferred to Company E, 1st Battalion, Nebraska Cavalry on July 10, 1865.

Discharged for Disability on September 23, 1865.

Filed for Invalid Pension on October 25, 1878.
