John Adams Bingham, a Winter Haven citrus grower, was son of John Adams Bingham a pioneer to the Winter Haven area in 1880s. Married Blanch Sidonia Votava and had one son John Bingham of Florida. Member of First Methodist Church and a native of Eagle Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm tomorrow from Ott-Laughlin Chapel for John Andams Bingham 77, a citrus grower and member of a pioneer family is the area who died at l:20am Sunday at Lake Weir Nursing home in Lakeland His hom was on Crystal Lake Road.
Born of the west side of Eagle Lake, he was the son of John Adams B. and Mary Virginia McKenney B. The site of his home and birth place was in Valencia grove. now the Crystal lake Rd. where he resided prior to his death. His father was a native of St Louis and was a colonel on Gen. Sheridan's staff in the Union Army. His mother was born in Tampa during the INdian Wars His father came south in 1881 and married his mother in Bartow. His father was of English Descent and his mother of Scotch Irish Descent.

Mr. Bingham was educated in Summerlin Institute in Bartow and received a Law degree in 1917 from Stetson University., although he never practiced law.

For 8 years he was deputy in Polk and Manatee Counties, a former deputy sheriff under Sheriff Alf Wilder and Sheriff Jim Johnson and for a time a policeman in Eagle Lake. He taught school in Chicora, Fredonia, Raymond, Winnauma, and at St James in Pine Island in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mr. Bingham could recall when Winter Haven was a high pine woodsand full of deer and turkey and had one general store. At the time of his death he was believed to be the oldest living man born in the Eagle Lake - Winter haven area. His family along with the Thornhill family, were the first in the area. He was married in 1911 to Mrs. Blanche Sidonia Bingham who died Sept 10 1959. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Bartow. Surviving are 2 daughters, Miss Helen Bingham of Winter Haven and Mrs. W A (Blanche) Gay of Bartow.

Funeral services will be conducted by the rev. ... Calhoun of the Linden Baptist Church Linden Florida..... (I didn't know there was a Linden in Florida and Mom will be surprised since she lives in Linden NJ) Pall bearers will be WW Cole ...Feagin jr. Dr. paul Myers Ross Dixon Newell Thornhill and bill Wolfe.
