Clayton H. Eastman, 64
KENSINGTON, N.H. - Clayton H. Eastman, 64, of 226 Amesbury Road, long time manager and organizer of the Northeast Baseball League, died Saturday morning at the Amesbury Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Seabrook, April 10, 1924, the son of Herbert O. and Pauline E. (Hatch) Eastman of Kengsington. He was a 1942 graduate of Amesbury High School and had lived in Kengsington all his life.
Mr. Eastman was employed as a shoe worker for many years and, from 1976, until his retirement in 1986, he worked as a foreman and welder for Amesbury Metal Products Corp.
He had managed the Northeast Baseball League semi-pro teams since 1945 and last Thursday evening at the Amesbury VFW, more then 100 former and current players and opponents in the league honored him for his more than 40 years of service.
He started managing teams in Salisbury. From 1952 to 1968 he managed the Alan Salvage team and from 1972 to 1982, Boyles's Drug, both of Amesbury. More recently, he managed the Merrimac and Seabrook-Gadsby team, which will go into the playoff semi-finals in North Andover on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Eastman had acted as a scout for the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and the Oakland Athletics.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held ata the Ronald A. Remick Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Kengsington.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
