CALVIN D. REES, 80, passed away Dec. 1, 2005. He was born March 29, 1925 in Nebraska, Indiana to Archibald Rees Louise Earnestine Struben - Rees.
Calvin was a U.S. Marine who proudly served his country during World War II at Guam and Iwo Jima. He was very active with many organizations, including Boy Scouts, Pack 32, Troop 42 and Post 42. One of his most enjoyable events was going to Philmont South Ranch at Cimarron, N.M. Calvin enjoyed coaching and managing his son's baseball team at John Adams Elementary.
In 1948, Calvin moved his family to Oklahoma City. He was employed as a city bus driver and later at Tinker Air Force Base. Upon retirement, Calvin became the first male in OKC to sell Avon products.
He was a member of the Church of Chirist where he volunteered and managed the "Golden Agers" and the city-wide Christian Service Center. In his spare time, Calvin loved to fish and travel, especially to Celina, Tennessee, where he would attend the Rock Springs Church of Christ. He would take his trailer for several weeks a year just to get away.
Calvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ovenia; daughter, Rosalind Rees; son, Calvin D. "Sonny" Rees, Jr.; brother, William H. Rees; 5 grandchildren Ann, Reagan, Nicole, Jeff and Sheila; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. Services to celebrate Calvin's life will be held at 2 p.m Monday at Southwest Church of Christ, with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. (Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary)
