Philip Washington Forehand, 86, of Forest Drive, went to be with the Lord June 22, 2002 in Staunton, Va. He was the son of the late John Franklin and Mrs. Beulah Daniel Forehand, and was a retired power production supervisor with the Virginia Electric and Power Company with 33 years of faithful service. Mr. Forehand was a member of the West Waynesboro Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Vera Swanner Forehand; one daughter, Barbara Forehand Amos of McDonough, Ga.; two sons, Rev. Phillip R. Forehand and his wife, Judy of Waynesboro, and Rev. E. Franklin Forehand and his wife, Joyce of Charlottesville, Va.; four sisters, Sis Rodgers, Elizabeth Baker, Rose Bateman and Vivian Poindexter and her husband, Tom, all of Chesapeake; two brothers, Melvin Forehand and his wife, Marian, and Calvin Forehand and his wife, Mildred, all of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Mark Amos and his wife, Kelly, Leigh Anne Hagwood and her husband, Geff, Joel Forehand and his wife, Lisa, J.D. Forehand and his wife, Christine, Doug Forehand and Jeremy Forehand; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Amos; a son-in-law, Don Amos; and two brothers, Rev. Edward Forehand and Ezra Forehand.
The family will receive friends at the West Waynesboro Church of Christ on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Chesapeake. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk, by Rev. Phillip R. Forehand and Rev. E. Franklin Forehand. A memorial service will then follow on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kempsville Church of Christ, 5424 Parliament Dr., Virginia Beach 23462. The family will receive friends at the church following that service.
