Mrs. Rilla Barkdull, 74, wife of Philip Barkdull, residing at 2132 North C. Street, died at 2:30 o'clock Sunday morning, of a complications of ailments, after an illness of several months.
She was the daughter of Frederick and Hannah Goin and was born May 1, 1863, in Tipton county. She was united in marriage to Philip Barkdull October 10, 1891. Mrs. Barkdull was a charter member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church.
Surviving besides the husband are two sons, Roy and Alonzo Barkdull, both at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Webb, of Elwood, and Mrs. Margaret Whitehead, of West Elwood.
Funeral Tuesday. The body was removed to the Robert L. Jackley Funeral Home and prepared for burial after which it was returned to the residence. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Pilgrim Holiness Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. Fred Johnson, in charge. Burial will be made at the city cemetery.
On April 13, 1937, Tuesday, in the Tipton Daily Tribune was an article and it states she was a native of the county. The funeral was held at Pilgrim Holiness church Tuesday afternoon and attended by many relatives and friends. Rev. Fred Johnson officiated at the services and burial was in the Elwood Cemetery.
Note: Rilla is listed as Serilda on the 1860 census. She is also 4 years old in 1860 so her birthdate would be about 1856.
