Myrtle Jeannette Barens of Fibre was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church in Kinross, where she was quite active in the Alpha Women's Circle. She died at the age of 90 Saturday, September 24, 2005. She was at her home in Fibre, with her family at her side. She was born July 5, 1915, in Sterlingville in Pickford Township, to Thomas and Almina K. (nee Tripp) Gray. She grew up in Sterlingville, where her sister introduced her to Frederick B. Barens at a community dance. They married August 30, 1933, in Sault Ste. Marie, and made their home on their farm in Fibre. Mrs. Barens enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Friends said she dearly loved her family, and the time she spent visiting with them. Mrs. Barens is survived by three daughters and their families, Juanita Ann and William McLeod of Strongs, Nancy Lee and Ron Ledridge of Laurel, Montana, and Judy Merle and Rick McMillan of Fibre; 14 grandchildren, Leland McLeod, Mark McLeod, Debra Barens Lovegrove, Kathleen Barens McMillan, Christine Barens Spencer, Laurie Barens Maahs, Renee Barens Jones, Jackie Sherman, Jodi Sherman Young, Brian Sherman, Aletha Ledridge Buckley, Amanda McMillan Lounds, Adana McMillan McMahon, and Adam McMillan; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Evelyne Esry of Sunnyvale, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; a son, Jack Frederick Barens; two brothers, Charles Gray and Henry Gray, and five sisters, Hazel Raynard, Minnie Sawyers, Merle Massey, Ann Janette, and Ruby Rader. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Services will be Friday, September 30, at 11 a.m., at Reamer Galer Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Rader will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township. -St. Ignace News, September 29, 2005
