George François Roy, son of Louis Ferdinand Roy and Eulalie Provost, was baptized George Odilon Adalbert Roy on 2 Mar 1879 at Saint Anselme, Dorchester, Québec, Canada. He immigrated with his family to the United States after 1881 and settled in New Hampshire. George's mother Eulalie died in 1890 in Gonic, Rochester, Strafford, New Hampshire. The whereabouts of his family at the time of the 1900 census are uncertain. However, on 20 Jun 1904, George married Alphonsine Ruel, daughter of Hubert Ruel and Marie Marceline Goulet, in Somersworth, Strafford, New Hampshire. About 1912, George moved with his wife and daughters to Maine. The family lived on Payne Street in Springvale. The daughters who survived to adulthood also raised their families in homes on Payne Street. George died at age 63 and was interred in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth, New Hampshire. In addition to his wife and two of his daughters, he was survived by two of his seven siblings, Anna and Joseph Adelard. Almost a century after the Roy family's move to Maine, George's great-great-grandchildren had the opportunity to explore one of the family homes on Payne Street.

Sources include the Drouin Collection, census records, New Hampshire marriage records, World War I draft registration cards, the Portsmouth Herald 6 Jul 1942, George's obituary, and my family copy of the 1942 Généalogie de la Famille Goulet-Ruel. I have yet to figure out the mystery of the rather inaccurate date of birth given on my great-grandfather's WWI draft registration card, 6 May 1883 rather than the correct DOB of 1 Mar 1879.
